Obeying before seeing the result
Bernadette dug in the ground where she was told, and a spring welled up.
In 1858, in Lourdes, Our Lady appeared to Bernadette, a fourteen-year-old girl. In one of the apparitions she pointed to a spot in the grotto where Bernadette was to drink water. Bernadette dug there with her hands, and a fairly abundant spring appeared.
Bernadette didn't understand why she was being asked to do something like that. She did it. The water came afterward.
Sometimes God asks us for things whose meaning we can't see yet: persevering in something that bears no fruit, forgiving, continuing to pray, waiting. Obeying without having all the answers isn't naivety: it's trusting someone who sees further.
Key idea
Trusting God sometimes means doing what he asks before seeing the result.
Your challenge for this idea
Today, keep going with something good you do for God even if you can't see the fruit yet.
