Not everything that happens to you needs telling right away

Mark as read

Some things are better understood if you let them settle before telling them.

Today we tend to process everything out loud and instantly: we tell it, post it, ask for opinions, react. Sometimes that helps. Other times, it stops us from understanding what's happening to us. Keeping something in your heart isn't shutting yourself off. It's giving it time, praying it, letting it settle before drawing conclusions. The Gospel says that Mary, faced with what she didn't understand, "kept all these things, pondering them in her heart." Many things you don't understand today become clear if you let them mature before God. What's urgent isn't always telling it; sometimes it's understanding it.
