There is no ecology without caring for people
Defending nature while disregarding people makes no sense.
It is easy to fall into an odd contradiction: feeling tender toward every species while ignoring the real people right next to you. Or vice versa, claiming to champion solidarity without lifting a finger for your environment. Both fall short.
Caring for the world and caring for people go hand in hand. It is not consistent to fight for the planet while forgetting the dignity of whoever suffers, the unborn, the elderly, or the inconvenient. The very same root sustains both forms of respect.
True care is comprehensive: caring for creation and, above all, caring for persons, who are worth more than everything else.
Key idea
Respect for nature and respect for people spring from the same root.
Your challenge for this idea
Today, alongside an act of caring for your environment, make a concrete gesture of care toward someone you usually overlook.
