Loving a child also means letting go

Mark as read

Educating is not holding back; it is preparing to fly.

Children are not property. They are given life, affection, and roots, but also freedom so that one day they walk alone. Whoever truly loves does not bind: they accompany and, when the moment comes, let go. That demands trust. It is hard not to anticipate every decision, not to shield from everything, not to choose for them the path you would like. But a child grows when you let them use their freedom, even at the risk of making mistakes. Letting go is not walking away. It is remaining present without pulling the strings: respecting who they are becoming, supporting their decisions and vocation even if you do not fully understand them. Loving like this is scarier, but it shapes free people.

Key idea

Good parenting ends by teaching a child to fly without you.

Your challenge for this idea

If you are a parent, let your child decide something small for themselves today, even if you would do it differently.
