Let reality touch you

It is possible to look at a situation and immediately turn it into an opinion, judgment, or comment. That way you protect yourself, but you also distance yourself from what reality wanted to show you. Letting yourself be touched does not mean swallowing everything uncritically. It means pausing before responding and asking yourself what is there: a need, an uncomfortable truth, a beauty, a call to change. Prudence often begins with a pause. If you go through life classifying everything instantly, almost nothing educates you. On the other hand, when you listen to reality, you can respond with more humility.
