Let God look at you

When you pray, you can feel that everything depends on your concentration, your words, and your ability to find God. Contemplation adds another direction: before you manage to look at him properly, he is already looking at you and knowing you. That gaze does not work like surveillance looking to catch you out. It is the gaze of one who knows your lights, your fears, and your contradictions without reducing you to any of them. You can stop performing before God. Knowing you are looked at with love changes the silence. You no longer have to produce an experience or defend your image. It is enough to remain, let truth appear, and receive a presence you have not manufactured.
