Leave shared spaces as you'd like to find them

Mark as read

The office kitchen says a lot about the people who use it.

The kitchen in a shared apartment, the bathroom at work, the meeting room, the building entrance. They belong to everyone, and that's why it's easy to think they belong to no one. Somebody will clean it up. But that somebody exists: a coworker, the cleaning staff, a neighbor. Every unwashed mug or piece of paper on the floor is work you pass on to someone else without asking. Leaving things as you'd like to find them is a small and very concrete form of respect. It doesn't show and no one will thank you for it, and that's exactly why it says a lot about how you treat others when they can't see you.

Key idea

Taking care of shared spaces is respecting whoever comes after you.
