When leadership turns into self-promotion, the focus is lost. You begin thinking more about your image than about the good of people and the work. Well-lived authority has much of service in it. It listens, guides, demands with justice, and seeks to enable others to give their best. Authority is earned in daily life: keeping your word, acknowledging mistakes, and avoiding asking sacrifices of others that you would not take on yourself.
