Justice falls short without charity

Justice is the baseline and it is sacred: giving each person their due, what belongs to them. Without it, any goodness is mere posturing. But justice alone falls short of making a world truly livable. Charity goes one step further: it gives of what is mine, not just what I owe. It means taking an interest in the other's good as in your own, offering time, attention, or help that no one demands. It never replaces justice; it overflows it. In daily life this shows: you can fulfill duties toward everyone and remain cold, or fulfill them and truly care as well. The second is what genuinely transforms a home, a workplace, or a nation.
