Jesus chose ordinary people

Mark as read

No apostle would have passed your selection process.

Review the list: several fishermen, a tax collector despised by everyone, a political hothead, none with brilliant studies. One denied him three times, another doubted everything, and almost all fled on the night they were needed most. That was the founding team of the Church. Jesus did not sign a team of stars, and it was not for lack of candidates. He chose ordinary people and devoted himself to loving them, training them, and bearing with them. With those twelve, the Gospel reached you twenty centuries later. The method has not changed. The conclusion is both uncomfortable and liberating: "I do not measure up" is not a valid excuse, because none of them did. Christ does not choose the qualified: he qualifies those he chooses.

Key idea

Christ does not choose the perfect: he transforms those he chooses.

Your challenge for this idea

Stop waiting to be "ready" for that good thing you have been putting off: the apostles were not ready either.
