Is it selfish to desire heaven?

It sounds logical: if you do good for a reward, it seems like disguised selfishness. And if that reward is heaven, aren't you being a bit calculating? The question is a trap, but it also has a beautiful answer. Heaven is not a reward like a car or a trip. It is being with God and those you love, forever and without shadows. Desiring that is not selfishness: it is desiring Love. And it is not a heaven "just for me": Christian hope is that we all arrive, and that urges us to bring others, not shut ourselves away. Desiring heaven, rightly understood, does not make you calculating: it gives you reasons to love better here. Whoever truly hopes for that life does not live focused on scoring points, but on loving, because they understand what the prize is about.
