Is euthanasia compassion?

Mark as read

Accompanying is not eliminating the sufferer.

The suffering of a sick person calls for real compassion, care, accompaniment, and proportionate relief. But taking life is not the same gesture as caring for wounded life. Dignity does not disappear through illness, dependency, or pain. A human society is also measured by how it accompanies the fragile when they can no longer produce or sustain themselves alone. The key is not to use doubt as an excuse to remain still. A question lived well can draw you closer to God if it is asked with humility, if it seeks truth, and if it is ready to change something when it finds light.

Key idea

True compassion cares for the sufferer without denying their dignity.
