Interior poverty sets you free

Mark as read

Not everything you own deserves to own you.

Poverty as a virtue does not simply consist in owning little. It consists in using things without letting them rule over the heart: clothes, money, phone, plans, comfort. When something material decides your mood, your schedule, or your treatment of others, it is no longer so small. Christian detachment puts things back in their place and leaves you freer to love. So that this does not remain mere theory, it helps to bring it down to a concrete decision: an overdue conversation, a small sacrifice, a priority that needs ordering, or a more Christian way of looking at what is happening.

Key idea

Detachment prevents material things from governing your heart.
