In friendship, the one who stays wins

Mark as read

If in love the one who flees wins, in friendship the one who stays wins.

When a friendship breaks over a clash, pride pushes in the same direction: walk away, be right, wait for the other to take the first step. And so something worthwhile cools off, not for lack of affection, but because nobody wanted to stay. Making peace requires the exact opposite: bearing the discomfort, taking the step yourself, letting affection weigh more than a bruised ego. Staying is neither weakness nor swallowing pride; it is loving a friend for who they are, not who you wish they were, even if they contradict you at times or speak truths that sting. Praying about it and mulling it over helps settle the wound and bring what matters to light. Almost always, when you lower your pride, you see that you preferred having your friend over being right.

Key idea

Making peace is not winning the argument, but staying when it is easy to leave.

Your challenge for this idea

If you have a friendship cooled by a clash, take the first step today yourself—a message, a call—without waiting to be right.
