Discipline

If you do not master this, you will suffer

If you do not govern your impulses, they will end up governing you.

Always giving in to what you feel like seems easy at first, but ends up removing freedom. Impulse commands, and you react. Temperance is not rigidity. It is self-mastery: being able to say yes or no according to the real good, not just according to immediate desire. Technology serves when it keeps its place. When it invades every wait or quiet moment, it is wise to reclaim spaces where the mind can focus on a single thing.

Key idea

Mastering yourself makes you freer.

Your challenge for this idea
