If God knows everything, am I free?
If God already knows what I'm going to do, it seems my choice doesn't count. That isn't so.
It's an old question: if God governs everything and knows the future, isn't everything already decided? Why should I make an effort?
Faith's answer is that God works on a different level from ours. He doesn't compete with your freedom: he sustains it. Your decisions are truly yours, and God counts on them to carry out his plan. That he knows what you will choose doesn't mean he chooses for you.
Think of a father who knows his son very well and knows how he will react: that doesn't take away the son's freedom. God knows you even better. And instead of a fixed script, he offers you a story in which your choices matter.
Key idea
God knows your choice, but he doesn't make it for you: your freedom is real.
Your challenge for this idea
Today, make a small decision aware that it is yours and that God is counting on it.
