Hoping for heaven isn't standing there looking up

Mark as read

When Jesus ascended into heaven, two angels asked the apostles what they were doing standing there.

Forty days after rising, Jesus ascended into heaven in front of his disciples. They stood there looking up, without moving. Then two men dressed in white said to them: "Why do you stand looking up to heaven?" (Acts 1:11). They had work ahead of them. Believing in heaven isn't standing around in a daze waiting for it to arrive. It's knowing where you're going while you live here: you study, work, care for others, change what you can. The goal doesn't take you off the road; it gives you reasons to travel it well. Some people think faith makes you wash your hands of the world. The Ascension says the opposite: Jesus goes to heaven and leaves the earth in the hands of his friends.

Key idea

The hope of heaven doesn't take you away from earth: it sends you back to it with a mission.
