Hope looks further ahead

When a strong emotion arrives, it narrows the horizon. It seems that it will always be this way, that nothing will change, or that God has departed. But an intense sensation is no prophecy. Christian hope lifts the gaze without denying the night. It remembers that God is at work even when you do not see progress, and that a faithful step continues to hold value. Here too God enters in a very concrete way. He does not only look at what you do on the outside; he also wants to order the heart, heal what is wounded, and teach you to respond better, not merely to react.
