Grace elevates friendship without making it less human

You can spiritualize a relationship to the point of talking a great deal about God and very little about concrete daily life. You can also reduce Christian friendship to human affinity without letting Christ broaden its horizon. Grace integrates both dimensions. It prompts you to pray and to send that message; to desire your friend's holiness and to take an interest in their work, their rest, and their everyday joys. The eternal cuts across ordinary gestures. This unity prevents using faith to dodge emotions or conflict. Praying for someone can give you light to ask for forgiveness, accompany them better, or respect their personal process. Supernatural friendship does not hover above our humanity: it heals it, strengthens it, and enables it for a greater good.
