God is not a stopgap

Mark as read

Remembering God only when something breaks distorts who he is.

There is a very common way of treating God: while everything goes well, he does not even appear; when trouble strikes, he is expected to fix it immediately, and if he doesn't, he is blamed. It is treating him like an emergency service. But God is not a resource to plug holes when everything else fails. He is a Father who accompanies in the everyday as well, in what works, not only in breakdowns. Reducing him to an emergency button is settling for a caricature. Changing this is simple and deep at the same time: counting on him when things are going well, not only when they are burning. Then the relationship ceases to be an emergency transaction.

Key idea

God is not an emergency button, but a Father present every day.

Your challenge for this idea

Today, at a moment when everything is normal, remember God to give thanks, not to ask for a rescue.
