God doesn't treat you as just one more

Mark as read

Mary Magdalene didn't recognize him by his face, but by the way he said her name.

On the morning of the resurrection, Mary Magdalene was weeping by the empty tomb. She saw a man and thought he was the gardener. She asked him where they had put the body, told him about what she had lost… and didn't recognize him. Until he said: "Mary." Then she knew who he was. No speech or proof was needed. Her name was enough, said the way only he said it. That's how God treats each person: not as a number in a crowd, but as someone specific, with their own story and their own tears. Maybe you feel like just one more in class, at work or even at church. To God you aren't. He knows you by name, and in prayer you can listen to him that way: speaking to you.

Key idea

God doesn't love you in general: he calls you by your name.

Your challenge for this idea

Today, begin your prayer with a simple phrase, "Lord, it's me", and keep talking from there.
