God chose to be born small

Mark as read

The Almighty chose to begin as a baby who needs everything.

God could have burst into the world with power, dazzling everyone. He chose the opposite: to be born as a baby, in a stable, shivering with cold, dependent on a mother for everything. The Almighty made himself small and helpless. It was not an oversight; it was a statement. God approaches this way, without overwhelming, so you can look at him without fear and even hold him in your arms. He makes himself needy so you feel capable of welcoming him. That says a lot about how God treats us. He does not enter by force or from above; he arrives slowly, humble, at the level of your heart. If you were expecting a distant, imposing God, Christmas disorients you: he comes as a child.

Key idea

God became small and fragile to draw near to you without imposing himself.

Your challenge for this idea

Before a nativity scene or an image of the Infant, pause for a moment and let that small God disarm you a little.
