Friendship without jealousy makes room for a third

Mark as read

That your friend loves other people does not automatically reduce the value of the bond they have with you.

Intimacy can awaken the fear of being replaced. You interpret a new friendship, a partner, or a different group as a sign that you no longer matter. Then you demand exclusivity through reproaches or coldness. Mature affection recognizes that the human heart can expand. Not all relationships offer the same thing or share equal closeness. Voicing a concrete need is legitimate; controlling the other person's social life is not. Overcoming jealousy also allows you to get to know and receive the third person without turning them into a rival. Perhaps they bring a good that you cannot provide. A secure friendship does not need to occupy the entire map. It preserves its place through truth and care, not by eliminating other affective paths.

Key idea

Mature friendship expresses its needs without demanding exclusivity and can rejoice in other bonds that do good to a friend.

Your challenge for this idea

Name an emotional insecurity without accusing, and ask what concrete care you can agree upon, giving up control over your friend's other relationships.
