Freedom needs a destination
Being able to move in any direction is of little use if none is worth the journey in the end.
Defining freedom solely as the absence of limits leaves the main question unanswered: what do you want to be free for? Without an orienting good, choices simply compete on immediate intensity.
A destination does not turn life into a mechanical itinerary. It provides a compass to choose routes, correct detours, and push through costly stretches. Love, truth, and communion with God give real content to the capacity to decide.
They also make it possible to appreciate boundaries that protect the journey. Saying no to a dependency can expand the possibility of loving; keeping a promise closes off alternatives and opens up a real story. Mature freedom does not fear every boundary. It asks whether it brings it closer to or further from the good for which it was created. Without direction there is movement, but not necessarily progress.
