Freedom grows when it commits
Keeping all options permanently open can end up leaving you without a life you actually chose.
At first, freedom seems to expand the less you commit to: you can change plans at will, avoid attachments, and preserve many possible futures. But a possibility that is never chosen never actually becomes a living reality.
Good commitments do not destroy freedom. They give it clear direction and make it possible to build something that requires time: a friendship, a family, a profession, or an answer to God. Every genuine "yes" involves renunciation, but it also unlocks a depth that remains impossible from the doorway.
Committing does not mean ignoring red flags or making blind promises. It means deciding with prudence and then putting your freedom at the service of what you chose. In this way, it stops being merely the capacity to pick options and becomes the capacity to love.
Key idea
Freedom reaches true depth when it sustains good commitments and builds a lasting story with them.
Your challenge for this idea
Choose a good commitment you are living half-heartedly and specify a decision to strengthen it this week.
