Feeling opposite things at once doesn't make you fake

Mark as read

Excitement and fear, affection and anger: sometimes they arrive together.

You're offered a job abroad and you feel excitement, fear and sadness about leaving your loved ones, all at once. Or you love someone very much and at the same time you're angry with them. That mix doesn't mean you're fake or that you don't know what you want. It's normal for a flesh-and-blood person. Putting yourself in order inside doesn't consist in silencing everything you feel so that only a cool head decides. Each feeling usually points to something true: fear, to a risk; sadness, to something you love; tiredness, to your need to stop. Sometimes one of them will have to give way, but there's no need to despise it. Fear can warn you without deciding for you; tiredness can ask you for rest without canceling a promise. It's about listening to all of them and choosing what is truly good.

Key idea

You don't need to silence what you feel to decide well: listen to it and put it in order.

Your challenge for this idea

Faced with a pending decision, name everything you feel, including what you don't like, before deciding.
