Ethics is not social decoration

Ethics is not a collection of refined tastes for living together without friction. It is born of a reality: there are actions that build up the human person and actions that cause damage. That is why the first principle remains simple and demanding: do good and avoid evil. A society that forgets this can become highly efficient, but not necessarily truly human. The key is not to use doubt as an excuse to remain still. A question lived well can draw you closer to God if it is asked with humility, if it seeks truth, and if it is ready to change something when it finds light.
