Emotions speak to you

Mark as read

Yet you have to learn how to listen to them attentively.

An emotion can signal an open wound, a need, a desire, or a boundary that is worth examining. Ignoring it systematically usually causes it to reappear in another form. Listening to it is a first gesture of personal honesty. Yet listening does not mean obeying. Fear can warn you of a real risk or wildly exaggerate a danger. Anger can point out an injustice or turn a small annoyance into a major battle. Prudence helps you interpret before taking action. You can also place what you feel before God and talk it over with someone sensible when needed. The interior life does not consist in following every impulse, but in integrating emotion, truth, and the good. In this way the heart stops being a confusing place and learns to guide your decisions better.
