Educating the heart, not just informing

Giving facts is called "sex education": how the body works, how to avoid risks. It is good to know, but it falls far short. What truly forms is educating affection: helping understand what is at stake when you love someone, what respect, modesty, dedication, and the gift of self are. Without that, sexuality becomes trivialized: it is lived as consumption, with no person behind it. With it, it opens to what the heart truly seeks: to love and be loved faithfully and truly. This applies to raising children and to examining yourself. "Knowing" is not enough; one must learn how to love well. And that is taught above all by example.
