Faith

You do not need a miracle to care for it

Mark as read

The Eucharist already deserves reverence before anything extraordinary happens.

Some reports conclude by asking ministers and faithful for more care when distributing and receiving Communion. It would be strange to wait for a visible sign to begin caring for what faith already recognizes as the presence of Christ. Miracles can awaken, but they should not become the condition of your respect. If you only treat something as sacred when it bleeds, shines, or surprises, you have let the senses completely decide what you believe. Everyday reverence is less flashy and more faithful: approaching prepared, responding with attention, receiving without hurry, and giving thanks. It makes no noise, but expresses real conviction.

Key idea

Faith cares for the Eucharist because of who is present, not because of anything spectacular that might happen.

Your challenge for this idea

At your next Mass, consciously take care of one gesture: the genuflection, the amen, or thanksgiving.
