Could you explain your faith in a minute?
If someone asked you what you believe, where would you start?
A work colleague, a friend who doesn't believe or your own child might ask you: "So what exactly do you believe?" Many Christians go blank or come out with a jumbled list of rules.
The essentials fit into a few sentences: that there is one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit; that he created us out of love; that the Son became man, died and rose again to save us; that in the Church he gives us his life through the sacraments; and that eternal life with him awaits us. That's what the Creed prayed every Sunday at Mass sums up.
Being able to say it in your own words isn't a matter for experts. It's knowing what you love well enough to tell it simply.
Key idea
Knowing the essentials of your faith lets you explain it simply when someone asks.
Your challenge for this idea
Today, pray the Creed slowly and then try to sum it up out loud in your own words.
