Someone shares a song, a project, or a small victory. You can respond with an exact evaluation and, nevertheless, leave them with the feeling of not having been truly received. Empathy perceives that behind the deed lies an excitement offered to you. It does not demand faking admiration or lying. It asks to show interest, celebrate what is true, and understand what it means to that person. Relationships grow cold when they only exchange correct data. They need resonance: rejoicing in another's good, accompanying a disappointment, and making visible that you have been touched. A concrete phrase—"it shows how hard you worked"—can care for someone more than a flawless and distant verdict.
