Contemplative in the middle of work

We tend to separate prayer from everything else: a little time "for God" and then real life, work, hurry. But you can relate to God without stepping away from ordinary life. Not only during times of prayer, but throughout the day, in a brief and continuous conversation with him. It does not mean being distracted or failing to do your work well. It is the opposite: working focused, knowing you are looked upon with affection, offering what you do, sending a short phrase to God between two things, thanking, asking. Little by little, the whole day becomes prayer. That is what St. Josemaría pointed to with being "contemplatives in the middle of the street." It does not ask for extra time you do not have: it asks you to remember the One who never forgets you.
