Consolation and desolation

Not all inner states are the same.

There are moments of peace, clarity, and desire to do good. And there are others of darkness, restlessness, sadness, or confusion. Both are part of the interior journey. Learning to distinguish them helps immensely. Not to become self-absorbed, but so you do not make decisions the same way when you are at peace as when you are unsettled. Repressing feelings and blindly obeying them are two extremes. Maturity consists in integrating what you feel within a life directed toward the good.
