Being available does not mean that nothing matters

Mark as read

Openness to God requires convictions and discernment, not a personality without preferences or direction.

You can confuse availability with saying yes to every request, abandoning plans before any opinion, or waiting for signs for decisions that are already yours to make. Available freedom possesses desires, talents, and responsibilities. It offers them to be guided, not erased. It discerns which call comes from love and which arises from pressure, fear, or another person's disorder. Jesus gives his life freely, but he does not let everyone define his hour and mission. You too can serve and maintain boundaries, change path, and sustain a decision. Authentic docility does not make you formless. It enables a concrete personality, with formed discernment, to respond wholeheartedly to the good it recognizes.

Key idea

Christian availability offers a personality with desires, responsibilities, and discernment; it does not consist in blindly obeying every demand.

Your challenge for this idea

Before accepting a request, check what responsibility it affects, what good it serves, and whether your yes comes from freedom or fear of disappointing.
