Asking for forgiveness is a sign of maturity
The mature person is not one who never fails, but one who does not hide behind failure.
Asking for forgiveness forces you out of the image you wanted to maintain. You acknowledge that a word, an omission, or a reaction of yours caused hurt and that you cannot erase the fact with explanations.
Immaturity usually protects itself: it minimizes, blames fatigue, or hopes time makes the wound disappear. Maturity assumes its own part without taking on the blame of others. It states what it did, hears the impact, and offers to make repairs.
This does not belittle you. It restores truth to the relationship and shows the bond matters more than your pride. In Christian life, asking for forgiveness opens space for mercy: it lets you rise without pretending you never fell.
