Ask only for today's bread

The Our Father asks for "daily" bread, today. Not a warehouse for a lifetime or guarantees for a future that does not yet exist. It is a school of trust: one day at a time. Much of our anxiety comes from living in an imagined tomorrow, shouldering all at once problems that have not yet arrived. Asking for today's bread means stepping down to what is real: I can face today, and for that I ask for strength. It is not carelessness; it is trust. The Father who gives you life will not leave you without what is necessary. Tend to today with seriousness and surrender the rest to him; tomorrow you will ask again, and there will be bread again.
