Ask Jesus what you still lack

Mark as read

Sometimes you do everything right and still feel something's missing.

You can go to Mass, behave well, do your part… and feel a gap. It's not that you're doing something wrong; it's that something isn't in its place yet. The easy thing is to cover it up by comparing yourself with those who do less. The brave thing is to ask Jesus, like the rich young man in the Gospel: "What do I still lack?" The answer doesn't have to be adding more things to do: it might be an attachment, a calling, a way of loving. But don't ask the question out of perfectionism, examining yourself without peace. Ask it before someone who looks at you with affection. It's not about "How do I become flawless?" but "What step are you inviting me to take now?"

Key idea

Asking Jesus what you lack isn't seeking perfection, but the next step of love.

Your challenge for this idea

Ask that question in prayer today and keep just one concrete, small and doable step.
