Ask how someone really is

Sometimes a sincere question opens a door that no one was able to see.

Many conversations run on autopilot: how are you, fine, busy, see you around. Nobody completely lies, but neither does anyone truly encounter the other. Asking how someone really is requires availability. Perhaps the other person answers with something uncomfortable, long, or sad. That is where it shows whether you wanted to say hello or truly meet. Charity often begins with simple attention. Listening well can be the first service of the day.

Key idea

A sincere question can break through loneliness and open up trust.

Your challenge for this idea

Ask someone today how they really are and listen without looking at your watch.
